Is Dog years just a myth? Is it not a real thing? A new formula reveals how old Fido actually has become in the human age,
What is the age of your dog’s age in the human years? This is a fairly simple question to answer, isn’t it? The majority of dog owners adhere to the old “multiply by 7” method however, a new research suggests that this is an untruth.

Instead scientists at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine declare that they have developed a formula that is more precise in determining how old your dog’s owner.
It’s been discovered that this “one dog year equals seven human years” rule of thumb isn’t true. Because dogs do not get older at the same pace like humans. According to the study, dogs get older faster as they grow older and then slow down after seven years old.
“This makes sense when you think about it. A nine-month-old dog can have puppies. Therefore we already knew that the 1:7 ratio wasn’t an accurate measure of age. ” Is the study’s lead the study’s author, Trey Ideker. a declaration.
A Dog’s Epigenetic Clock Can Reveal Its “Human” Age
The study was published in Cell Systems, is a look at a process known as the “epigenetic clock.” This clock determines the age of the cell by analyzing chemical processes such as methylation. Which affects whether genes within the body are turned to or off.
Ideker states that epigenetic changes reveal clues as to the age of your genes exactly. Much like wrinkles in the face of a person. The study’s epigenetic aspects have been carried out with mice and people. However, the coauthor Tina Wang suggested trying the method on dogs.
“We always look at humans, but humans are kind of boring,” Ideker says. “So she convinced me we should study dog aging in a comparative way.” Is dog years just a myth? Have we been lied to?
Researchers collaborated with experts in dog genetics to analyze the blood of more than 105 Labrador retrievers. Their findings have led to the first scale which shows that a one year old dog’s genes are close than a person who’s 30 years old.
When a dog’s age starts to slow, a 4-year-old puppy is very similar to an older person of 52 years. At the point that the dog is in the teens they’ll be more like an older person of 70 years. Rather than 100 years old as the old system suggests. According to the facts in this new study it makes dog years just a myth.

Dog Years Just A Myth : Combating The Aging Process Correctly
The study suggests that keeping track of the age of dog (and humans) through methylation offers researchers a method of finding out whether the products to combat aging actually work.
“How do you know if a product will truly extend your life without waiting 40 years or so?” is the question asked by Ideker. “What if you could instead measure your age-associated methylation patterns before, during and after the intervention to see if it’s doing anything?”
Researchers point out that one issue with the findings was that this study focused on Labrador retrievers. Ideker along with his colleagues have plans to conduct tests on different breeds to determine if their updated scale of “dog years” stays consistent.
Conclusion
The study also states that because epigenetic research has proven to be accurate for humans as well as mice. The findings for dogs ought to be applicable to all breeds of man’s favorite pet.
